Mutated dandelions - Grand Rapids, Michigan 5/1/12
Six days in a row, I have found fasciated dandelions in Grand Rapids, in six different locations. This video documents the fasciated dandelions I found in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 5/1/12. On 4/26/12 and 4/27/12, I found a total of three fasciated dandelions in a vacant lot near my house. ( Video of the 4/27 find: www.youtube.com ) On 4/28, as I was loading my musical equipment into the bar where I was playing a show, I checked out a small strip of weeds next to the bar's parking lot and immediately found a fasciated dandelion. Two interesting details about this find: 1) It was in a very small area containing only a relative handful of dandelion plants. 2) Most of the parking lot slopes downward towards this small strip of weeds. This means that during a rainstorm, much of the runoff from the parking lot ends up flowing over / soaking into the relatively small strip of weeds where the fasciated dandelion is located. On 4/29, as I was driving back from filming the dandelion t! hat I had found the previous night, I noticed a vacant lot full of dandelions and stopped to check it out. Within a couple minutes, I found a fasciated dandelion. I filmed it and picked it, and then searched for more. Within a couple minutes, I found another fasciated dandelion, filmed it, and picked it.
